Hislop back into the Ministry, and has given him the portfolio of Education and Charitable Aid. _ The appointment is quite appropriate. Mr Hislop is eminently fitted to teach the youth of the colony good manners as Minister of Education, and to dispense Christian charity. The appointment meets with our entire approval, because we are of opinion Sir Harry will find Mr Hislop too heavy a weight to carry through the next election. Sir Harry is a zealous retrenches A part of his scheme was to reduce the number of Ministers, but we find he has no intention of doing so. He has now taken in Captain Russell as well as Mr Hislop, and thus has as many Ministers as any previous Premier. Sir Harry could very well afford to do at leastwithout one of these Ministers. The Native affairs have vanished into almost thin air, and the management of railways has been handed over to the Commissioners. Thus Government has been relieved of two of the heaviest departments of the Service, but Sir Harry has not decreased the number of Ministers in a corresponding ratio. That will show the people that Sir Harry’s retrenchment is not genuine.
