Ohablistok, Aug. 8. There have been a dozen er more shooting and cutting affairs in the State within the last week. The latest case occurred in Laurence \ County yesterday, when 0. W. Lansford, a prominent citizen, shot and killed Barrat Langston. Both men were while. A vendetta between the Lanafords and the Langstons has been \ declared, and both families are now on the warpath. In Bamberg there is also a vendetta on, between the Prices and Stewarts, growing out of a caning and shooting affray that occurred several days ago; In Charleston the colored “ man and brother ” is following closely in the footsteps of the white brother, and is using the shot gun, pistol, and razor with deadly effect. There have beep no less, than five or six shooting and cutting encounters 'here;within’ the pastithree days; ' l l : The News and Courier says The State is smeared with blood, frem the seaboard to the mountains; and there is no telling whom the next shot will strike., "What are we going to dp about it ? We need not try to disguise the fact that the administration of justice has fallen into a state of innocuous desuetude. The press and the pulpit should speak out, now and all the time, against the violation of law; and should denounce every miscarriage of justice as a blot upon civilization; and an outrage upon humanity.
