BISHOP JULIUS.
Sydney, Sept. 30. The fragmentary nature of the reports of the lecture on the London strike, delivered at Ballarat by Archdeacon Julias (just elected to the See of Christchurch) led to soma misapprehension of bis meaning. “As an old Londoner,” says the rev. gentleman, “ I am deeply interested in the condition of the poor, and I feel strongly the wrongs which they have suffered through neglect, injustice, and greed. I expressed my sense of admiration at their power of self-restraint and forbearance, especially when their poverty is continued with overflowing wealth and luxury around them” Archdeacon Julias'goes on lo ssy that he did not justify violence, which seems to have been the sense it) which his remarks were taken in some quarters. He is fully aware that any outbreak on the part of the poor will only serve to intensify and prolong their misery.
