AUCTIONEERS' REPORT
TIMART7,
Mr E. R. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ending Saturday, September 21et, as fob lows
With regard to stock generally, business at this time of year is dull| and exchanges are always below thq average. Small entries of all kinds have been received. At this season farmers are not anxious to dispose of sheep if they can possibly hold on to them until after shearing.
Cattle—Eat cattle are net plentiful and all that find their way into the market meet with ready sale. At Washdyke yards a few pans, of nice beef sold at about 18s to 19s per 1001 b. Stores —If this fayourable spring weather continues for a few weeks, this class of stock will be in request. We have enquiries for good 3 and 4-year-old steers, also young cattle, but few are offering at present. Sheep—Very small numbers have been brought forward at the different fixtures on account of the reasons stated above. At Washdyke yards fat half-breds made 13s 6d, and old crossbred ewes 10s 7d.
Sheepskins—There was not a large attendance of the trade at last Wednesday’s sale, and prices in consequence were hardly maintained. We cleared our catalogue of about 800 at the following figures: —Best half and three-quartsr-breds 6s to 6s 6d, second quality 5s 3d; 5s 6d; 5s 9d, to 5s lid, ibest merinos, 5s to 5s 3d, second iquality 4s to 4s 9d, dry country lots from 2s up to 5s lOd, as per condition land size. CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The following is the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, Sept. 20th, 1889 Farmers., are now offering their wheat much more freely, and are disposed to accept reasonable rates, but the great scarcity of tonnage for London restricts business in that direction, and the Sydney market, with the steady imports by the mail steamers from San Francisco, shows no signs of revival; indeed, prices in that market are lower than ever, Oats are dull, but as arrangements have been made for shipping considerable parcels to Melbourne during the next few weeks, we do not expect to see prices rule much lower. Stocks, however, are rather heavy down south for so late in the season. Barley is simply unsaleable j even feed is without inquiry. Choice malting, of which there is little in the market, finds buyers at 8s 5d to 8s 6d. Beans and peas hare a fair trade at our quotations. Eyegrass has been offering freely from the south, which has had the effect of making the local market. Prices consequently have given way.
