OHRISTOHTJBOH STOCK MARKETS.

At the Addington market on Wednesday there was a good attend-1 ance, and sales were brisk. Eat Cattle—Competition was brisk, and as the quality was of first rate order, prices were high throughout the sale. For inferior sorts also the demand was fairly good. Best beef may be quoted from 18s to 19s 6d, and in one or two cases as much as 22s per 1001 b was obtained. Inferior sorts made from 15s 6d to 17s 6d per 1001 bas per quality. Best heavy weight bullocks 'made from £7 10s to £lO 5s ; inferior Borts from. £5 to £7 ss, and cows from £4 to £6 10s.— Messrs Matsou and Co. sold for Mr J. Guild, 18 steers at £lO ss. Dairy Cattle A large Bupply, prices ranging from £3 to £9. Eat Sheep An extremely heavy entry, including a good few really first-class sheep. Ereezers were in good force, and sold at satisfactory rates, as much as 24s beiug obtained for a pen of extra heavy-weight crossbreds. Merinos were in good force, but prices for them were rather low. Best mutton made from 2d to 2U per lb, and inferior up to lfd. —Messrs Matson and Co. sold for the estate of the late Mr A. Grant, crossbred wethers at from 15s 7d to 18s lOd, and ewes, not maidens, at from 14s 9d to 15» 6d, and for Mr D. Shaw maiden ewes and wethers at 12s 5d to 14s Id. Lambs Some really fine lambs were yarded. Competition was good, best lambs making from lis to 13s, and inferior ones up to 10s 6d. Pigs—A small entry, the demand was limited except for butchers' lines.

DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS.

The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday:— Wheat—Advices from Home continue to be of a very unsatisfactory tenor, more disappointing than ever. Locally there is a weaker tone, and the tendency is towards lower prices. There ii no demand for shipment, and the quantity required to satisfy local requirements is very limited. Late quotations are unaltered, but the business done is very light. G-ood. to prime milling velvet and tuscan, 3s 6d to 3s 8d; medium to good, nominal, 3s 3s to 3s 5d ; inferior to good whole fowls' wheat, 2s 8d to 3s 2d (ex store). Oats—There has been a little more inquiry for these during the week, and a few sales have been effected. Advices from the Australian markets are not by any means encouraging, and speculators decline to purchase even at a reduction on late quotations, unless they have orders for immediate delivery. Millers are not buying, so that the difference between the value of milling and good feed, if any, is slight indeed. Best milling, 2s 6d to 2s 6|d; best bright short feed, 2s 5d to 2s 6d; medium to good, 2s 4d to 2s 5d (ej store, sacks extra). Small retail parcels bring a shade more. LoDg tartanans have a slight demand for seed, but danish are hardly asked for.

Barley has no demand of any consequence. Quotations (nominal) : .Prime malting, 3s 5d to 3s 7d ; medium, 8s to 3s 3d; feed and milling, 2s to 2s 9d (ex store, sacks extra).

Potatoes —Deliveries continue on a moderate scale, and late quotations are fully maintained. Best northern, 90s to 955; medium, 80s to 85s, Southern: Best, 75s to 80s (sacks extra) ; kidneys, no demand: Dairy Produce—There is no improvement to report in the market, which still continues dull for both cheese and butter. Quotations —Butter: Salt, nominal; no demand. Cheese: Factory, 5d to s|d; Akaroa, 4dto4£d.

Pigs—Well fed, up to 1801 b, 4d to 4£d ; hams, 8d to Bid; flitches and rolls, 6d to 6|d. Chaff—Best oaten sheaf, £3 10s to £3 15s ; ordinary, £3 to £3 10s; inferior, £1 15s to £2 15s per ton (sacks extra). TurnipSj 17s; carrots, 35s to 40s. Hay—Oaten, clover, and ryegrass, 10s. Honey, 4|d to 4^d. Grass Seed—[Ryegrass, 3s 6d to 7s; cocksfoot, to 3^d. Sheepskins—On Tuesday, country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought Is 2d to 3s 9d; do do merino, Is 3d to 3s lid; medium to fullwcolled crossbreds, 8s lid to ; 8s ; do do merino, 3s lOd to 5s lid; dry pelts, 2s to Is; butchere' green crossbreds: best, 6s 4d to 5s 4d ; good to medium and inferior, 5s 3d to 4s 3d; green merinos, 5s lid to 4s 3d. Hides-r-Thore is no change in the position of the market. Prime extra heavy, 2|d to 3d; heavy, 2|d to 2fd; medium, 2£d to 2£d; light, 2d to 2|-d; inferior, to lfd.

Tallow—Prime rendered mutton is worth 19s to 20s; medium to good, 16s'to 18s ; inferior and mixed, 12s 6d to 15s. Eough fat: Best mutton caul, 13s 6d to 14s ; inferior to medium and good, 9s to 13s per cwt.

DUiSEDIN STOCK MARKET. At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—227 head were yarded. These were considerably over the average. The small number yarded, after the two previous weeks' moderate supplies, caused a firme* market, and

an advance of from 5s to 10s per head on last week's prices. Best bullocks sold at £ll to £8 10s; medium, £8 to £6; inferior, £5 10s to £4; cows and heifers, £6 15s to £2 ss Mr John Grindley sold for Mr J. Ghiild, Trevenna, 6 prime bullocks from £8 5s to £7. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold for Mr John Grant, Willowbank, 2 extra prime bullocks (heavy weights) at £ll each, and 2 extra prime bullocks (heavy weights) at £lO each. Messrs Eeid, Maclean, and Co. sold for Mr L. Grant, Temuka, 2 bullocks at £lO ss, 2 at £9 17s 6d, lat £7 12s 6d; on account of Mr W. Stewart, Orari, 2 bullocks at £8 ss, 2 at £8 25,6 d, and 3at£7 7s 6d. Fat Sheep—slß9 penned, consisting of about 900 merinos and, 4289 crossbreds.! A considerable part of these were freezing wethers of fair, quality. The sale for crossbreds opened ; with a fall of Is tq Is 6d per head, but prices firmedi asjthe .sale' progressed, and towards the close price rose to about the level of last week's values, Crossbred wethers solo! at 9s 6d to 16s 4d ; ; crossbred ewes, 8s 9cl to 18s 9d; merinos, 5s 6d to Bs. A line of exceptionally prime merinos made to 14a.

Pigs—3l3 yarded. Pully one-half were porkers and baconers of ordinary quality, with a good supply of suckers. Sales opened a little and continued so throughout. . &uckers; sold at 6s 6d to lis ; stores,, 17s to 27s'; porkers, 28s to 365; baconers, 40s to 565; a few extra heavy to, 655.

ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Sept. 18. New Zealand mutton is quoted at 5d per lb. Sept. 19. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,664,000 quarters, and for the Continent 024,000. The American risible supply amounts to 15,625,000 bushels.
