A New Book on New Zealand.—l’ho Wellington Evening Press says:—“We learn by the San Francisco mail that Mr E. Wakefield, on the 13th July, concluded an agreement with Messrs Cassells and Co., of London, New York, and Melbourne, to print his book “New Zealand After Fifty Years.” The book will be printed octavo size, and contain 40 illustrations of New Zealand subjects. The work has been placed in hand at once, and the book is to be brought out at the eartiest possible date. It will be a much more complete and attractive work than at first contemplated, and the fact that so celebrated a firm as Cassells’ are undertakirsg the publication of it is a guarantee of its merit and success.” H. M. Stanley.— A gentleman, recently from England, who is distantly connected by marriage with H. M. Stanley, gives the Hawera Star some particulars of Stanley’s early life, and denies the accuracy of those contained in “ Men of the Time.” He states that the mother ®£ Stanley died when he was only two years old, his father, whose name was Reynolds, having died shortly before that, A small farmer named Owen, living near Denbigh, in North Wales, took.charge of the lad and reared him until he was a youth of thirteen years or so, when Stanley took service in the London and North-Western Railway Company. The informant denies that Stanley was ever in the poorhoase at St. Asaph, or that he ever taught in a school before he left for New Orleans. Holloway’s Pills and Ointment.— Though it is impossible, in this, climate of changing temperature, to prevent ill-health altogether, yet its form and frequency may be much mitigated by the early adoption of remedial measures. When hoarseness, cough, thick breathing, and the attending slight fever indicate irritation of the throat or chest, Holloway’s Ointment should be rubbed upon these parts without delay, and bis Pills taken in appropriate doses, to promote its curative action. No catarrhs or sore throats can resist these remedies. Printed directions envelope every package of Holloway’s medicaments, which are suited to all ages and conditions, and to every ordinary disrase to which humanity is liable. News is to hand o£ the death of Queen Charlotte of Tonga, who expired suddenly on September Bth. She had been ailing for some time. The noted quality of the Coffee made in the Oa&s of Turkey, France, and America is chiefly due to the fact that only Fresh Boasted Coffee is used j so that none of the volatile oil and other essentials are lost. Ask your grocer. for Anderson’s Coffee, and you will have a beverage alike refreshing and stimulating, as it is 1 fresh roasted and ground at the factory,. Timaru.—[Adtt. 2J
