DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.
MELBOtTRKE, Sept. 14. . A disastrous fire broke out at 6,30 yesterday evening in the principal part of Collins street, one of the main thoroughfares of the city. George's four-storeyed drapery establishment and Glen's music shop were completely destroyed. The flames spread with alarming rapidity, and Collins Street presented a magnificent though unfortunate scene. , Allan ? s music shop was partially destroyed, but Mullen's bookshop was uhtouehed, though considerable loss was entailed by removal of perishable articles, The stock of George, who owned a large drapery establishment, which fell a victim to the fire in the early stags, is insured for £44,000. Other insurances sre as yet unknown. The total damage by the fire is roughly estimated at £200,000. While the fire whs raging one or two wal 1 -* fell, and John McLeod, a Amman, was killed and ten otberß ttere badly 'injure.;, while two are missing, and sre, it is feared, buried in the ruins. •*:] Later, The bodies of Leigh and Johnston, the firemen w,htf were/buried inder the walls which fell at the fire on Friday i night, have been recovered.
