OUR NEW ADMIRAL.
The Right Hon. Lord Charles Thomas Montague Douglas Scott, C. 8., was born on the 26th October, 1839, and entered the service on May 11th, 1853. He was appointed sublieutenant on the 21th May, 1859 and Lieutenant 19th July 1859 ; Commander 12th September 1865, Captain Bth February 1872. He served as midshipman in the St Jean d’Acre, in the Baltic in 1854 and in the Black Sea 1855-56 (Baltic, Crimea, and Turkish medals); as midshipman in the Raleigh’s launch and tender at Hong Kong, at Escape Creek, Fatshan, and other boat engagements on the Canton river in May, June, and July, 1857 (China medal and Fatshan clasp); as midshipman in the Pearl’s Naval Brigade, 1857-58; specially mentioned in despatches 17th February and 16th March, 1858 (Indian medal) ; as commander of the Einaldo served as second in command of the Naval Force under Captain Heneage, which landed for the protection of British subjects at Tangchow in November, 1868. Commanded flotilla of heats in conjunction with Naval Brigade, under Commodore S O.; J. Jones, at the destruction of three piratical wailed villages up the Duling-poi Creek, near Swatow, December, 1868. Captain of the Bacchante in her commission 1879-82, with H.R.H. Prince Albert Yictor and H.R.H. Prince George of Wales, C.B. for this service (civil) A.D.C. to the Queen June, 1886.
