Pickwickians! shed a tear over the ruins of the White Hart in the Borough. It was here that Mr Pickwick first met Sam Weller, who was engaged on a pair of boots. Sam left the White Hart to become Mr Pickwick’s servant. The ancient memories of the famous old Inn have long since departed, and not long ago Messrs Manger and Henley, the hop-factors, found it necessary to order, its demolition.
