PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH, GERALDINE.

The quarterly meeting of the stewards of this church was held on Monday last. The usual tea in connection with the meeting was held in the evening. The tea, a really excellent one, was kindly given by Mrs A. bherratt, and about 50 persons sat down to the large table presided over by Mrs Sherratt and Miss Eskett. After the tea the usual public meeting was held. The Rev. G. Clement occupied the chair. The meeting was opened with devotional exercises. The chairman then addressed those present, expressing the great pleasure he felt at the way in which the work of the church had been progressing during the past quarter. The number of members had increased, and the state of the finances was very satisfactory. The present condition of the church, too, was one of harmony and unity. If they could only maintain that state of things they might look forward for even better results during the coming quarter. He also intimated that a Bible class was about to be started, to be held during the week, and stated that the first meeting would take place this evening. Mr J. B, Epps spoke next, and expressed the pleasure he felt at being present. He congratulated the stewards and members upon the satisfactory condition of the church. He then went on to point out that the Christian of the present day must walk —first, carefully ; second, cheerfully; third, prayerfully ; and fourth, hopefully. Solo, Mrs H. N. Hiskens, “ Beautiful Zion”; recitation, Eanny Jones, “The Angel’s Ladder”; reading, Mr Logan, “The Leek Seed Chapel”; solo, Miss Andrews, “ Master Speak.” Mr Bryan, who spoke next, also expressed the pleasure he felt at being present, and exhorted his hearers with earnest words of encouragement to press on in the work in which they were engaged. Recitation, Miss E. Hawke, “ The Old Man in the Model Church.” Mr Wise was next called upon to speak, and made an earnest appeal to those present to push on the Master’s cause.

Solo, Mr Logan, “What are you going to do Brother.” Mr R. Hammond made the financial statement for the quarter, showing that the stewards had a small balance to credit. Mr Hammond also expressed the great pleasure the proposal to establish a Bible class gave him, as he considered a good Bible class was one of the best services in connection with the church.

During the evening the choir, under the leadership of Mr A. Sherratt, rendered several selections of music. A cordial vote of thanks to Mrs A. Sherratt for the tea she had prepared, als© to the speakers and others, terminated the meeting.
