In the House of Assembly Mr McLean’s motion, which the Government accepted as one of want of confidence, was defeated by 81. The body of Mr Sherlock, civil engineer, has been found at Bingwood. He had apparently been dead a month, and from the appearances it is evidently a esse of murder.

Sir J. G. Lee Steere, Speaker of the Legislative Council, suggests a compromise as a solution of the land difficulty. He proposes that the colony be divided north to south along the 120 degree of longitude, that to westward to be vested in a local legislature, that to eastward to bo under Imperial control.
