CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.

The following is the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, August 30th, 1889; — There is little new to report in the grain trade. Business is exceedingly quiet. Foreign advices for wheat tend to firmness, but locally there is no disposition to purchase. The enquiries last week for tuscan have been filled, and it is now difficult to obtain our quotations. The three boats for Sydney at the beginning of the week have taken another large shipment of potatoes, the advices of which speculation are now awaiting. The oat market is quite lifeless, no orders being on hand, and local requirements being fully supplied. Barley, like oats, is very dull there being so little prime and buyers decline to operate on second quality. The following are our quotations: — Wheat —Prime tuscan 3s 7d to 3s 8d; pearl 3s 4d; hunters 3s Id to 3s 2d. Broken wheat 2s 6d to 2s 9d. Oats—Milling 2s 9d; short feed 2s 7d to 2s 8d ; inferiors 2s 4d to 2s 6d. Barley —Prime malting 3s 8d to 3s lOd; medium 3s to 3s 3d; feed 2s 6d to 2s 9d.

Beans, 3s 3d to 3s 4d. Peas —Prussian Blues 3s 6d to 3s 9d; feed 3s to 3s Id.

Grass Seed Byegrass, machine dressed 4s 6d to 4s 9d; farmers’ lines 3s to 4s. Cocksfoot, prime 3£d; inferior to 2|d. Potatoes—37s 6d at country stations. Dairy Produce— Butter, nominal, 7d; cheese, 3id to 4d,

The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.0.b., sacks extra.
