Morgan and Anderson have been committed for trial at Oamaru on nine charges of burglary, Several slander actions in which damages are laid at £IOOO to £2OOO are set down for hearing at the sitting of the Supreme Court, which commences at Blenheim on the 28th inst. At the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Greymouth, on Thursday, William Campbell was charged with permitting, without authority, his coach running between Greymouth and Reefton to bear the words “ Y.R.,” thus giving reasonable cause to believe that the coach was engaged carrying mails. Defendant pleaded guilty. The postmaster, who prosecuted, asked for a merely nominal penalty, as it was a first offence. The defendant was fined Is and costs. The Otago Education Board passed the following resolution :—“ That Mr White has committed a grave indiscretion in publicly speaking at the institute in such terms as to be generally understood to imply a charge of gross systematic favoritism on the board’s part in the selection of candidates, all hough it seems doubtful, in view of his explanation, whether be meant to make such a statement, and the board censures Mr White for such indiscretion.”
