AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT,
TIMARU. Messrs W. Collins and Co. report for the week on the market as follows: — There was a slight improvement in the wheat market, but it only lasted for a few days, as the one buyer soon got his quantity, 15,000 sacks. The price was paid 3s 6d all round, with certain concessions. For spot lots, tuscan is worth 3s 3d to 3a sd; velvet and pearl, 3s 4d; red chaff,, 3s 3d; fowl wheat, Is 9d to 2s 9d. Oats are on the decline, owing to the large buyers stopping operations. Danish are worth 2s 2d to 2s 3d; Canadians, 2s 6d; tartars, 2a 4d; duns, 2s 4d.
Derwent potatoes, 90s, f.o.b. (must be prime to obtain that figure) ; kidneys, 84s per ton; early roses, 90s do; pure asbleafs, 90s.
Mr Moss Jonas reports - Newmarket Yards—At these yards on Tuesday he had an excellent entry of sheep but a very poor entry of cattle, but still competition for all lines was brisk. He sold 25 fat sheep at 12s, 144 fat wethers at 13s, 81 ewes 9s 6d, 140 do at 8s 9d, 200 crossbred ewes at 8s 6d, 192 2-tooths at 9s 9d, 460 mixed sheep from 5s to 7s Bd. Cattle: 6 fat cows at £6, 5 steers and heifers at £4 15s, yearlings and 2-year-olds £1 Is to £2 12s, milch cows and springing heifers from £4 2s 6d to £6 10s.
Pleasant Point—At the above yards on Monday there was a good attendance of the public, but not an oversupply of either sheep or cattle. He succeeded in selling 1258 fat and store sheep at prices from 9s did to 11s lid, there being no heavy or good wethers in the yards. Cattle: Pat cows realised from £5 5a to £5 17s od, steers and heifers from £4 15s to £5 15s 6d, springers from £3 to £4 12s 6d, and yearlings and 2-year-olds from 10s to £2 ss ; 3 pigs at 16s 6d, 12 at Us, and 6s at Bs. Washdyke Yards—On August Ist he sold 197 ewes (in lamb) at 9s 6d, 60 fat ewes at lie, 4 head of fat cattle at £5 16s, 3 springers from £2 to £3 15s, and 8 calves and yearlings from 8s to 21s. On August Bth he sold 260 freezers at 16s, 175 ewes and wethers at 2s 6d, 140 fat ewes from 8s 6d to 10s 6d, and 99 ewes (in lamb) from Bs. On this occasion he sold no cattle.
Sheepskins and Wool, etc.—At the sheepskin sale on Wednesday he had an entry of over 8000 crossbreds and merinos, and prices were excellent, a rise of from 3d to 6d per skin taking place—crossbreds, 3s 3d to 6s 6d; merinos, 2s 4d to 6s ; pelts, 4d to lOd. Wool, from 7id to B|d ; locks and pieces, from 2d to s?d; and 15 bags of wool at 7fd. 174 hides at Ifd to 3d, according to quality and condition. Private Sales—Privately he sold 25 head of fat cattle from £6 to £6 16s, and 174 fat sheep from 111 to 15i, 224 ewes (in lamb) at 6s 6d, and 160 2-tooth ewes and wethers at 10s.
TIMARH MARKETS.
31 Wheat — Quotations are: Prime tuscan and velvet 3s 3d to 8s sd, red chaff 3s 2d to 3« .; .3d, squarehead 3s to 3s 2d, whole fowl wheat 2a lOd to 3s, broken do 2s to 2s 3d. Oats— Quotations are: Prime milling 2s 7d to 2s Bd, bright heavy Danish 2s 4d to 2s sd, fair average 2s 3d to 2b 4d. Barley—Prime malting 3s 4d, bit few transactions are taking place.
