CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The following is the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, August 9th, 1889 : The week has .been exceptionally quiet in both grain and produce lines. A few lines of thscan have been placed for special orders, but there seems no disposition whatever to speculate. Any orders coming to hand are easily fulfilled at our top quotations, Sydney shows no disposition to do business. This we cannot expect until stocks become more limited. Millers are operating very sparingly, and only when prime, lines are offered at low figures. Oats are dull, although there are but few offering. Barley is very dull, maltsters being full up, and shippers are awaiting returns of their Melbourne shipments, Ryegrass and clover have a good retail demand, and’stocks of the former are becoming limited.
