The Colonial Treasurer's financial statement shows that the receipts during the year exceeded the expenditure by £117,000. The deficit, which at the beginning of the year was £602*000, now stands at £485,000. The value of the imports in the year just passed was £13,000 less Man in the preceding 12 months, the decrease being in grain and flour. Government have decided not to alter the tariff. The reoeirits for the current year are estimated at £3,749,000, and the expenditure, £3,620,000. A loan Bill for the purpose of carrying on .publicworks will be introduced shortly; August 3.
Information has reached here that 'a number of natives at Malatya,'one of the Solomon Islands, boarded the trading vessel Savo, and without warning shot A. Hadden, the mate, dead, and cut off the head of a man named Cooper. Keating, the owner of the vessel, Was also severely wounded and subsequently succumbed, The native crew repelled the murderers, killing twelve of their number.
