GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
r LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. On'Friday, The Canterbury Bpciety of Arts Reserve Bill was committed and reported with amendments. The Public Eeserves Act Amendment Bill was read a second time, HOTJ3E OF REPRESENTATIVES. On Friday, The House met at 11 a.m. in committee on the Representation Bill, and on the Premier's motion adjourned till 2.30. The House resumed at 2.30 p.m.
Mr Barron asked what attitude Government intended to take in respect to Sir George Grey's amendment. Mr Hislop said that he had stated yesterday that a reduction of members was part of the policy of the Government, and they must treat the amendment if carried as an attempt to reverse that policy. The Premier said that under no circumstances would the Government consent to have the numbers raised to I 'flj r Ballance regretted that Mr Hislop had not; made* the intention of Government on that point clear yesterday; an ; informal discussion, Sir George Grey obtained leave to withdraw his amendment. At 4.20, the Premier suggested that the chairman leave the chair till 7.30 as the conference was sitting, and ultimately the House was adjourned until 2.30 on Monday.
