THE FIRE BRIGADE.

TO SPHB IDITOB.

Sir,—Tour report of the fire at tbe Temuka Flax Mills, stating that a messenger was sent down for the Fire Brigade is correct. The Brigade did not go because a fire occured there lome three years ago, and the Brigade i went up to it. The expenses of attending that fire cost the Brigade £5 16s. The property not being insured we wrote to the directors of the Flax Company sending them a statement of accounts, as rendered to the Brigade, for horße hire and breakages, and they did not even acknowledge the receipt of our letter, so in this case we refused to go without expenses being guaranteed. Sorry for troubling you for so much space, lam, &c, A. "W. Sttebid&e, Hon. Sec. Temuka Yolunteer Fire Brigade.
