SCHOOL FOR ARUNDEL.
, TO THE EDITOR. Siel feel very angry with you for your action in approving of the Geraldine School being made into a District High school. You first of all ought to see that the country districts were attended to. We have been trying for a school in this (Arundel) district these last five years, and have not got one yet, although we have Over 30 children of school age, and Under about 14., But I suppose Mr pearpoint and the Rev. Mr Barclay see that the education cow is apt to go dry, and while there is any milk they" are trying to get as much as they can for Geraldine. After they have got their High school I suppose they will apply to the Board of Education for a grant of money to feed and clothe the scholars. My children and my neighbors’ children have to walk about 14 miles a day to the Station School. I leave you to guess what state they are in for learniag after their tramp night and morning. If you knew of this I am ashamed of you, as Isuppose you have children of your own, so I hope you will repent and leave Mr Pearpoint and Mr Barclay to their folly. It is a pity there is not a few more independent gentlemen like Mr Talbot on the Board, I think myself that parents ought to be made to ; pay for the education of theic Children after they pass the sixth standard. If there was a Catholic School within my reach I would not send one of my children to a Government school. I have been a regular subscriber to your paper since it started in Geraldine, and.: always paid in advance, l.was thinking of knocking it off, but got so used to it that I will try it another year, and will pay your agent in Geraldine my subscription Some time this next month (August). I hope you will repent of your folly; if not, i; will Kaye to put the matter in Mr. Badbam’s ’ hands. Ho doubt that gentleman will call in tbe assistance of Sit? Oori O’Lanus. You will then see how yourself, Mr Barclay, md Mr Pearpoint will fare. If there ,s a jury I hope I will be on.it, and :hat Mr Talbot will be the judge. So rou may all look out. You Can make vhatever use you like of this letter.— [ am, etc.,
John Chimes. [We knew nothing of the grievance irhich Mr Charles mentions. Ifw< lid, and felt that the raising of th< leraldine school to the status of i ligh school would stand in the waj £ getting a'school at; Arundel we hould oppose it. The Educatior loard should first of all attend to lementary education, and devote its pare, energies to higher branches, tut let Mr Charles make no mistake, he raising of the Geraldine school ill not in any way interfere with 1m m getting a school for his dis■ict. If, as he states, there are 30 lildren of school age in his district sis perfectly entitled to a school, id the people there ought to agitate rit Let them call a meeting and ipoihfc a deputation to wait on the location Board and urge their aims. Several districts have guaraned to supplement the allowance pen by the Education Board. Let em offer that guarantee, and we anot see how the Board can refuse sm. We shall certainly assist in j way we possibly can, and we must r that if the facts as stated in Mr arias’ letter are accurate it is a disice to the Education Board that it i so far.done nothing in it. We hope Charles and his friends will take steps we have pointed out, and if Pearpoint and the Eev. Mr BarT oppose them we shall be as ready jive these gentlemen a bit of our , ,d as we were to support their 1 1 On recently.— Editoe.] | i
