GRANTS TO THE ROYAL FAMILY.
London, July 24. On the recommendntion of the committee appointed to inquire into the subject ot grants to the royal family coming before' the House of Commons to-day Mr Labouchere moved that the funds at the disposal of the Queen were adequate for her grandchildren, and if otherwise economy should be made in respect to the household. The extreme Radical wing supported Mr Labouchere. The majority of the Parnellites support Mr Gladstone. Mr Smith is suggesting a compromise. Mr Morley moved an amendment opposing the grant recommendations unless it was agreed that no further application be made. In the discussion in the House of Commons, on the grants to the Royal family, Mr Gladstone, in on eloquent speech, combatted the arguments of Mr Labouchere, He severely condemned the shabby attacks made on the civil list, and denounced the proposal for the microscopic inspection of the Queen's household expenses. A splendid court in society like England's was, be contended, a necessity. July 26. In the House of Commons, Mr Labouehere's motion, traversing the recommendation of the to grants to the Royal family, was rejected by 390 against 116. The members of the Parnellite party voted with the Government,
