The blankets aud matresses -were accordingly obtained, and the roam 'was turned i,n(o a regular barracks. For security,,, Mr M'Gregor locked the door and put the key in hi* pocket. The arrangements had been seen, however, by the Opposition members of the country party, including Messrs Richard Seddon and Scobie Mackenzie. A deep plot was at '■ once Iv.A. Mr Scobie Mackenzie was to' entico Mr M'Gregor into Bellamy's while Mr 'Seddon annexed the bedding for the use »of (he Opposition. Mr Seddon managed, to £?et in by the window, and, with thei assistance of a messenger began to bunrYle the'blankets and mattresses into the Opposition whip's room. The plot would .'nave been completely successful had not Mr Scobie Mackenzie failed to inveigle Mr M'Gregor into Bellamy's. He got wind, however, of what whs going - oft, and on going round found Mr Soddon busy in his nefarious plan. He was handing the mafcresees through the window ''•'toi the messenger, who took them to Mr Fe.ldwick, who acted as receiver of atolen goods in the Opposition whip'd

The bat'le while it lasfd is said to huva b'en a very amusing one, and somewlut resembled an Irish eviction. Ths reason why the boddimr was sent back is uofc quite clear, but it is said that members feared that some of Mr Kerr's ' shammies' might be lodgiug on board.
