Roab Board Election.—-A poll for the •election of u number of tbe Giraldino Road Bonrd takes place to-ilay, Messrs A. Kelman, B. R. Macdonald, and A. Meioalf are the candidates, Ihk Timaru Show.—Persons who intend to give special or privato prizes lor competition at the forthcoming Timaru Show are requested to send particulars of the same to thu Secretary of the A. and P. Association, so that the same may be included in the revised prixaliat about to be printed. Htot Club Steeplechases.—At the Hunt Club Steeplechases at Christchtirch, on Saturday, the Hunt Club Cup, of 50 sovs., was w'dn''by Mr Pitt'a Squib, with Mr Rutherford's The Mount second. The Open Steeplechase, of 75 sovs,, was won by Mr Poole's Waitangi, with Mr itae's Orangeman second.' A Good Price. Aa Rhowing the opinion held by settlers of the value of land in the Temuka district, it may ba mentioned that on Saturday last Mr Duncan Scott's farm of 75 acres, at Arowhenua, was soli by Messrs Gracie, Maclean and Adam to Mr Michael Gaffmey for £25 au acre. Important Sale.— The attention of farmers and others is directed to the important clearing sale to ba held by Messrs Webster and Macdouald on account of B. Hunter Hrown, Esq., at Hilton tomorrow. Sheep, horses, harness, implements, and some very valuable freehold land are to be submitted to the hammer. R.M. Co»rt, Timaru. A sitting of this Court, took place yesterday, C. A. Wray, Esq., R,M., being on the bench. In the case of J. Brown v. Ph. Wragge, claim 10s lid (adjourned from list Court day), judgment was given by default for the amount claimed and ousts. The case of W. C. Roulston v. John Lynch win adjourned for a .veek. Salvation Army, Gejialdihe. The Solvation Army, under Ctpmin McCnrinick, " open fire;" at Gor-.ldine co-tnoivo.v evening, a number of officers and a,jl;iers from all part* of the district taking p»rt. Captain McCo-miok lias been appointed to the charge of the Geraldine station. Presentation.—Mr Gillespie, who has received .u> appointment in the Temuka Diitricfc H gh School, w«s, on Friday last, presented by the scho ! ars of the Washdyke school with a writing desk and gold pencil case, as a mark of the esteem in which h» is held by them. Ms Gillespie has been stationed at the Washdyke for five years, and has earned the respect and good opinion of all with whom he has been brought in contact. Accident.—Air 11. H. Pos'letliwaite met with a rather serious accident on Wednesday night last, when driving homo to Geralline from the Ttrauka Flax Mills, ft appears that the kickng of the horse he was driving broke the two shafts of the Irop short off, and Mr Postlethwaito was thrown on to the animal's heels and tho brute lashed out furiously, kicking him severely. The horso then got clear of the trap with tho exception of one trace, and in this way wheeled round aud round with Mr Postlethwaite under the body of the trap, unabie from his injuries to help himself. .Finally the herse got away, and a person going down the road fouud Mr Pofttlethwaiteand had him conveyed home, where he was attended by Dr Fish. His many friends will be glad to hear he is progressing favorably towards recovery. Extraordinary Conduct.—Robert A. Sullen, formerly inspector of police at Napier, has been arrested at Wellington on several charges of extraordinary conduct. The first charge is that of threatening a woman named Elizabeth Maclnder. He went to plaintiff's house and accused her of robbing him of £l5O, at the same time saying " I will do for you ; I" will break every bone in your body." Sullen hud in his possession a loaded revolver, and threatened to shoot a man who came to the woman's assistance. Bullen fired his revolver in tho air, and then went away. Ho is also charged with threatening to shoot George Norbury nod Alfred Coon —the former for sheltering Mrs Maclnder when he (prisoner) had driven her from her home. Coon saw him removing the furniture from M.rs Maclnder'sat midnight and on asking what the prisoner's intentions were wu knocked downa nd threatened with a revolver. AccJsod was remanded uniil Monday aud biil was refused. Cruel Treatment'of a Wife.— At 'he R.M. Court, Timaru, on Saturday, liobert Owen, a wharf laborer, w,as charged, before C. A. Wray, Ksq., R.M., with assaulting hi" wife on Thursday.
