The farmers and country settlers of the Auckland district held a meeting on Friday, when a resolution was passed approving of the proposed clause in the Trade Marks Act, compelling dealers in artificial manures to issue guarantees with every packet. A man named Alex. Brown, a millowner, of Ngaire, was killed on the railway line between Sentry Hill and Waitara on Saturday night. He was on his way home to Hew Plymouth, and got out of the train at Sentry Hilland was left behind. He then started to walk to the next station, and it is supposed his foot : caught in the cattle stop at the Richmond Road crossing, and he could not get away.
