CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.

The following is the Com Exchange report for the week eoding Friday, July 20th, 1889 : We have nothing fresh to report in the wheat market. London cables note that the market ia firm, but it has no effect locally. Sydney is glutted, and can hardly be expected to recever until it is known that California has ceased shipping, and seme of the stocks held are worked off. There has been but few local sales to note. Oats have a fair enquiry for Victoria at our quotations, but holders" are asking higher rates, which retards business ; orders consequently are being executed down south at less money, Barley—This market is dull except for choice lines, which, however, are hard to obtain; inferior kinds are dull. Beans and peas have a fair trade passing, and are getting into small compass. Ryegrass appears to have all got into merchants' hands, who are now asking high prices for their best samples. Cocksfoot is firm for prime heavy seed, but second quality has not as yet come into notice. Potatoes are being held for higher rates, but cables from Sydney say the market is well stocked, and prices are barely as firm, but few lines are offering. There is no alteration in dairy produce. Butter is chiefly being placed in retail lots. Cheese is exceptionally quiet.
