Football. —The following will represent the Winchester Juniors in their match with the Waihi Juniors in Geraldine on Saturday next :—Moore { 2), Cameron (2), Stowart(2), Wagstaff, McL,ood(2), Wilkes, Mohs, Woodley, Hart, Copping, and Jones; emergencies, Shallard and J. Wilkes.—A practice match of the Temuka Club will be held next Saturday, whan all members are particularly requested to be present. Temuka Rifles.—An inspection parade took place last evening, about 27 rank and file being present, Lieuts. Findlay and White in command. Staff SergeantMajor Jones put the men through company drill. After the parade a letter was read by Lieut. Findlay from Captain Rayhurst, suggesting that a social should bo held, at which the challenge cup should be presented to the winner. The suggcationQwae adopted, and the date of the social will bo fixed at the next parade. After the next parade Captain Hayhur&t will resume command for a short time drior to hia leaving for a visit Home. The shop of Mrs Miller, dressmaker, Port Chamers, was burnt, and the adjoining premises of D, Law and D. S. Jolly were gutted by fire. The bouse at Wrey’s Busb, Southland, from which one T. Clifford was evicted last week, was mysteriously burned on Friday night. Tbe Union Company are taking steps to run special steamers during exhibi- ■ tion time at reduced rates. August William Bjermquist, a Swedish sailor employed on the steamer Invercargill, was killed at Dunedin on Monday morning by timber falling on him in tbe bold. He was a married man with a family.
