Thursday Island, July 7 . _ A disastrous inundation took place in Northern Hwang Lung, a province of China. Six thousand people were drowned, and 10,000 rendered homeless and destitute. , : Pirates surprised the French fort at (Ohobo, in Tonquin, and tortured the Commandant and a corporal, who fell into their band# alive. The former’s two children were killed before his eyes, and he himself was then slashed to pieces. The outlook in British North Borneo is dark, owing to the want of proper Government supervision.
