FOOTBALL.

A match will be played either at Winchester or Geraldine on Thursday next, the 11th inst., between the Timaru Second Fifteen and the Waihi Junior Club. The * following team have been picked to represent the latter:—Full-back, W. Howe j threequarters, Morrison, Smith, and South; half-backs, J. J. Hiskens and Harding; forwards, Millard, Holmes, Erskine, Brown, Fleming, Fly, Wearer, Stringer, and Taylor. Any of the above who are unable to play are requested to let the secretary know at at once.- The ball will he on the ground, Geraldine, for practice every evening. PROBABLES V. POSSIBLES. The second match between the Probables and Possibles took place in Temuka on Saturday last. Owing to the state of the weather only thirteen on eash side turned up, and the result was a win for the Probables by six points to nil. Considetiog that the Probables are supposed to comprise the pick of the clubs in the South Canterbury Rugby Union the result was rather surprising. A third trial match takes place on Saturday. THE MAORI TEAM IN’ AUSTRALIA. The Maoris played Northumberland district at Maitland. N.S,W., on Friday, under Victorian rules, and were beaten by 6 goals to 3. On Saturday they mat the Newcastle district players in a foot bill match under the Association’* rules and were defeated by 8 goals to 2 goals.
