WORKMEN'S WAGES BILL.
The object of the Workmen’s Wages Bill introduced by Mr Guinness is to provide that where any person is engaged as servant or laborer, after his discharge from his employment he shall be entitled to be paid his wages within seven days, and in the event of such wages not being so paid, ho shall be entitled to recover full wages at the rate agreed on from the date of his being discharged till the amount is paid. THE OPPOSITION. The latest news from Wellington states that Mr John Ballance has accepted the leadership of the Opposition, and that Messrs Percival and Fitchett have been appointed Whips. This has given great satisfaction to the Opposition, who are now ready to go to work as a party. Sir George Grey, however, is very disgusted with the arrangement, and will probably play a lone hand. He is getting very feeble, and very little fight is left in him now. Mr Seddon is also very discontented, probably because he was not appointed leader. The Opposition now claim that they have a majority, and if defeated on the property tax the Government will appeal to the country. We shall in that case have another election in a few weeks. THE HAEE SYSTEM. Mr R. M. Taylor, Member for Sydenham, has told the Premier that he ought to call the Hare System Bill a Bill to give Representation to Sheep and Cattle. He was not far wrong.
