MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of this board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 20th inst. Present —Messrs G; J. Dennistoun, A. Hawdon, E. Thew, and R. Mackay. 5 The chairman not being present, Mr Dennistoun was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : From the Commissioner of the Property Tax, forwarding the valuation roll of the district for the triennial perod commencing Ist April, 1889. From Messrs Taylor and Flatmau, stating that they had sold section 1385 to Mr Robert Brown, and requesting that his name be substituted on the rate roll.—The clerk to write to Mr Brown requesting his consent to the alteration.
From Messrs Smithson and Raymond, in reference to taking the land required for a road through the Timaru Borough Council reserve. From Mr J, W. White, in reference to the conveyance of land for road purposes on Tripp’s Pass. From the Audit Inspector, requesting the clerk to meet him at Geraldine with the books of the board for audit.— Proposed by Mr Mackay, seconded by Mr Hawdon, and carried: “Thatin future the auditor be informed that the board object to the books leaving the office, and request that the auditor will come to the Road Board Office for the purpose of auditing the accounts.” From the New Zealand Exhibition Committee, requesting the return of subscription list with any money that may have been collected by the members of tbe board. From Mr D. McKay, calling attention to the state of the culvert in front of his premises at Peel Forest. — The overseer was directed to attend to the matter. From tbe Hon. J. B. Acland, stating that he is fully prepared to make a formal dedication of tbe land required for the road deviations at the north end of Peel Forest. From Mr C. G. Tripp, requesting permission to allow the gates placed by him on the road leading to the Orari Gorge to remain.—Mr Tripp to he informed that the board’s permission has already been granted for the gates referred to. Resolved—“ That the deviation of road at the north end of Peel Forest be surveyed for the purpose of having it conveyed to the hoard, and that the abandoned part of the road be closed ; also to have the short length of road leading down Bethune’s cutting surveyed for the purpose of having it closed.” Accounts to the amount of £127 9a 2d were passed for payment.
