At a meetwg of the Dunedin City Council a letter was received from die Auditor - General, returning the, balance-sheet, and stating that he disallowed the sum of £1228 13s M, transferred in excess of authorised limit from gas to general account. At the same time he says : —“ I felt it my duty to place in the hands the Crown Prosecutor the question whether councillors have not incurred penalties imposed by the Act for overdrawing the amount of the borough fund at the bank.” The letter was referred to the finance committee.
