GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of this committee was held on Wednesday evening last in the schoolhouse. PreS6n t—Messrs W. S, Maslin (chairman), H. R. Howard, J. Riordan, W. Shiers, and W. Walton. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. chairman’s statement. The chairman stated that he had arranged for a temporary supply of coal and firewood during the month and for the cutting up of the firewood. COBWCSBONDENCB. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: — From the S.C. Board of Education, advising the committee that the question of raising the status of the Geraldine School to that of a District High School had been postponed for further consideration at the next meeting of the board; also that the sum of £2BB would be added to the £3OO now standing on deposit when the next building grant was received, that sum having been put for the present to the credit of the building account, which was largely overdrawn: From the Waimate School Committee, requesting the committee to co-operate with Waimate, Timaru, and Temuka in approaching the Board of Education with a view to obtaining drill instruction and exercise for the respective schools. It was mentioned that Staif-&ergt.-Major Jones had expressed his willingness to undertake the position of instructor if sufficient remuneration were offered. —It was decided to reply to the effect that the committee had no funds to devote to such a purpose, and had a drill instructor already. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The headmaster’s report, as read, showed the attendance for the past four weeks to have been steady, though not very high, averaging about 204. The highest attendance had been 217. As there would probably be another meeting of committee before the pupil teachers’ examination the question of midwinter holidays was deferred till then. A few trifling repairs to the fence, shingle for the yard, and a gallon of kerosene were reported as being needed. The visitors also reporting that the same were required, it was decided to attend to the same. TENDERS POE PUEL. Tenders were opened for the supplying of Newcastle coal at per ton and black pine wood at per cord, for the ensuing twelve months, as follows: —W. A. Sherratt and 00., wood 20s, coal 87s 6d; R. H. Pearpoint, wood 20s, coal 395; N. Dunlop and Co., wood 20s, coal 365; R. Morrison, wood IQs, coal 35s (accepted). VISITORS REPORT. The visitors reported haying visited the school during the _ month and finding everything working well. A few trifling repairs and necessaries mentioned by the master were needed, also some hat pegs. The chairman was authorised to attend to these matters during tbe month. ACCOUNTS. The accounts were ordered to. be held over till next meeting for adjustment by the chairman, and the meeting terminated.
