THE RECENT LECTURE IN AID OF TEE MECHANICS’ INSTITUTE FUNDS.

TO THE EDITOE. . Sie, —When your reporter said.that “ there wan but a email attendance” on this occasion he was well within the mark. I occupied rather an exposed position in the hall, and had not the hardihood to count the number present lest I should be detected blushing. But I made them up after I went home. On the front seat oa the lecturer’s left were four persons; in the second seat on the three. On the front seat on the right were four adults, and two seats further back as many children, while behind these one person in awful solitude occupied a whole seat. . Besides these were the chairman, the lecturer, -and the lecturer’s assistant. Grand total, 19! If I were to obtain from the secretary of the institute the: names of the persons who were present at the meeting and voted for the lecture being called for, and if I were to ask these persons to my house for supper, and then absent myself on their arrival, no preparations haying been made for their entertainment, I should consider that that would, be treating them much as they hare treated me. But I couldn’t be so infamously discourteous.—l am, etc., The Legtubes. Geraldine, June 10,1889.
