THE PARNELL COMMISSION.
London, May 30. Mr Arthur O’Connor, M.P. for Donegal East, giving evidence before the Commission, disclaimed any knowledge of the league’s books. He approved of boycotting land grabbers Mr Justin McCarthy admitted giving Byrne his cheque for £IOO in exchange for another cheque for a similar amount shortly before he fled to the Continent. He did not consider boycotting intimidation, even if by it caretakers were deprived of their means of living. He undertook to produce the cash-book of the English branch of the league, Mr G. Lewis, solicitor for the defence, declared that he had produced all the books of the league that were obtainable. He had never inquired for letters, cheques, or records of the Land or National Leagues. Later. It is stated, that an allusion made by Major LeCaron to Dr Cronin, when giving evidence, before the Times-Parnell Commission led to the Clan-ua-Gaei trying the latter on a charge of treachery. About a dozen were implicated in the charge, and the sentence of the society was that they should be murdered. Before the Times-Parnell Commission Mr Joseph C. Biggar, member for Cavan West, admitted that he belonged to the Fenian organisation, but denied that he was ever an Invincible. He condemned outrage. The Clan-na-Gael Society deny the truth of the statement that they sentenced five spies, including Dr Cronin and Major LeCaron, to death in consequence of the evidence given by the latter before the Times-Parnell Commission. June 1. Mr R. J. Reid, Q. 0., one of the counsel for the Parnellite pany, informed the President of the Times-Parnell Commission this morning that thirty books, chiefly those connected with the English branch of the league, would he produced. On his examioation before the commission to-day Mr E. Harrington, memher for Kerry, West, stated that there bad been nearly 17.000 persons evicted from their homes in Kerry between 1871 and 1887, Ho had himself always denounced violence and crime.
