Melbourne, May 29. The floods in the Numurkab district have subsided. Sydney, May 29. Rain has ceased, The Hunter River district was inundated, and the town of West Maitland was covered with four feet of water. Residents in the lower portion of the place took refuge in the churches and large buildings on the high ground B May 30. Immense damage has been done by the floods in the town of West Maitland. There is much distress at Marrickyillo in consequence of the floods. Twen'y thousand bags, of cereals, chiefly shipments from New Zealand and Victoria, stored in the city, have been damaged by flood waters. The floods at Maitland are subsiding. An unfortunate accident happened while the people were being taken out of the , inundated houses. One of the rescue boats capsized, and a Miss Fleming was drowned. -
