CHRISTOHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 24th insfc.: — Markets all round are easier. The demand from Sydney side is not equal to the quantities offering, but shortly we expect to see this reversed, as the deliveries are last falling off, and our wheats find more favor in the Australian market during the colder weather. We were pleased that Mr Oliver was able to give the Dubbo farmers' Blander a most positive denial as regards the growing qualitiss of our wheat. It is quite evident that some damaged and sprouted grain has been foisted upon them. Practical open farmers should not be given to such tricking. The arrival of the Eeaper at Sydney has depressed that market, but we shall soon expect a revival, as stocks, now being chiefly in store, will only be drawn as demand requires. Oats do not improve; our Southern neighbors at present are executing all the orders. Very little prime malting barley is coming forward, consequently the demand is strong at our quotations. Grass seeds are dull, the sowing season having passed. Potatoes are now in full swing, aud considerable sales have been effected at 50s to 52s 6d at country stations off the forks, while £3 is required for forward delivery where pitted. There are buyers of dairy produce for the London market at for cheese and 7d for butter, local demand is limited. Shipping space is plentiful for London, to Sydney it is now more easily obtainable, large portions of it, however, are being taken for potatoes, so that the grain will not be got away any faster than heretofore. Our quotations are as follow : Wheat —Tuscan, 3s 8d to 3s 9d ; hunters and pearl, 3s 4d to 3s sd; 2nd quality, 3s to 3s Id; chick wheat, 2s 6d to 2s 9d. Oats—Milling, 2s 9d; short stout feed, 2s 7d to 2s 8d ; long and inferior kind, 2s 3d to 2s sd. Barley—Prime malting, 3s 9d io 3s lOd; medium, 3s 4d to 3s (3d ; feed, 2s 6d to 2s 9d.
