THE QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY.
Tomorrow being the anniversary of Her Majesty's birthday the banks and business places in Temuka and Geraldine will be closed, and. according to custom, a general holiday will be kept. The day is one kept more particularly by the Volunteers, who at Geraldine will muster at their drill shed and at 7.45 fire.a feudijois, and after inspection proceed with their annual prize firing. A similar programme is arranged for the Temuka Rifles, whose orders are to assemble, in review order at the drill shed at 3 a.m. when a Gavernment daylight parade will be held. This dismissed, the firing for prizes will commence, and it ii expected that the majority of the corps will take part in it. Id the evening the Volunteer Ball will be heH, as usual, in the hall. For the occasion unwonted efforts have been made and an energetic committee are endeavoring to rerive the enthusiasm which formerly characterised this popular event. FO9TIALL. To-morrow will be a red-letter day for footballers in the South Canterbury distriot, as no leas than three Chrlstchurch teams will pay them a visit. The Waihi Club play their return match with East Christchurch at Winchester, Darklown maet Cambridge at Temuka, and Timaru play Sydenham nt Timaru. Judging from the Christchurch match East Christchurch should, if they bring down the same team as played against Waihi in Christchurch, win their match. Sydenham should also win their match against Timaru rather easily, while Darktown should hold their own. The following will represent Waihi in their match :—T. L. Hart (captain), Moore, Fitzgerald, Burn, Wagmsff, Stewart (8), BrinkmaD, Lewis, H. F. Harte, MoLeod (2), Shallard (2). I Emergencies, H. Wakely, and F. Stewart. This match starts at three o'clock. > The following is the Darktown team : Full bank, J. Russell; three-quarter backs, Anderson, McLood, and Storey; half backs, McCallum and Findlay ; forwards, La very, Gaffaney, Fitzgerald, Dyson (captain), Polaschek, Bryw, Anderson, Turnbujl, and Greaves ) emergencies, Blissett, Bfosnahan, Austin, and W. Russell. Cambridge will be represented by the following :—Back, R. Bsrford ; threequarttrs, Willis, Wright, Williams; halves, R. Leach (captain), Neilson; forwards, Evans, McQallum, Hamilton, Doherty, Garrjgaq, Lear, Lamb, Johnson, Farrell. The game will at one o'clock, The Tkains, Etc. 3fv Special train nrrangaments have been made for tho holiday, and persons desirous of visiting Dunedin or Christchurch will have the opportunity of doing so at reduced fares. Saturday return tickets are issued from any station lo any station up to the 25th inst., available for return till the 30th. Several shooting parties have been made up for the day, and although game is very \ scarce doubtless many will be glad of the j chance of a little out-door exercise, J
