j TIMARU MARKETS. 1 At auction in Timaru on Saturday several hundred sacks of fowl wheat sold at Is 9d, 2s 3d, 2s Gd, and 2s 8d per bushel; Danish oats, 2s 4d to 2s 6d for extra stout, milling oats 2s 7d; Derwent potatoes, 60s to 65s per ton; ryegrass seed, 2s 9d per bushel; cocksfoot, no demand ;50 small cheeses, 5d per lb; honey, 2|d per lb; oat straw chaff, 32s per ton. In all cases sacks are charged for in addition to the figures quoted. AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. Messrs Graeie, Maclean and Co. report for the past fortnight, ending Saturday, as follows: — Horses—At the Timaru Horse Bazaar, on the 4th hist., our entry was a medium one, and business fairly active in draughts, with but little doing in light horses. To-day a small entry mot a dull demand, and only a few draughts changed hands. At the annual horse sale, held at Washdyke yards on the 7th inst., over 200 horses horses were yarded. These consisted of a mixture of all sorts, but good draughts predominated. The demand for the latter class was limited to the requirements of local contractors and farmers, and did not come up to our expectations. Of the number above mentioned we entered over the half, and sold 32 head. We quote sales of medium to good draughts at from £l6 to £29,> aged £8 to £l2. Hacks up to weight from £l2 to £l9, light and weedy £4 to £8 10s, Sheep—At Pleasant Point, on the 6th inst., there was a full yard of stores, and nearly all the lines changed hands at full values. Young sheep for turnip feeding are much enquired for, and all lots coming to hand are eagerly sought after, At Washdyke sales the yardings haye been small and quite unequal to the demand. We sold 33 fat ewes at Bs, 199 crossbred aged ewes at 4s 7d, 51 merino ewes at 2s 9d, 1128 crossbred lambs, viz., 250 at Gs, 150 at 5s lid, 139 at 5s lOd, 589 culls at 4s 2d, 305 old merino ewes at 2s to 2s 6d, 180 crossbred ewes at 4s Gd, 207 2 and 4-tooth crossbred ewes and wethers at ICa lid, and privately 850 crossbred and merino ewes. Cattle—There are very few cattle of any description coming to hand. At Pleasant Point we sold 6 bullocks at £4 15s, 2 steers at £2 10a, 9 head at 32s 6d to £2 15s, springers at £3 12s 6d to £4. We have numerous enquiries for cows in full milk. Pigs—We sold 22 slips at 13s to 15s, .10 weanors at 3s Gd, sows at 37s Gd to 40s, Ekins—At auction and privately we disposed of 926 at—for best crossbreds 3s 3d to 4s, medium 2a 3d to 2s 9d, merinos Is Gd to 2s 9d, Country Sale—On Friday wq held a clearing sale at Waitohi, on account of the executors of the late Mrs Hullen. There was a large attendance of farmers and dealers, and the prices realised for live stock and implements were highly satisfactory. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS, Melbouhne, May 10. The Argus says that a careful investigation of the actual stocks of wheat in the various warehouses leads to the concluaiou that unless in the remote contingency of export trade drawing upon the millers, there is just about sufficient to supply the requirements of the metropolitan population till next harvest. Sydney, May 10. The grain deliveries for the week include 221 tons Hour and 1829 tons of wheat from New Zealand. Of the recent shipments of wheat about 30,000 bushels have been supplied to farmers in drought stricken districts for seed purposes. Wheat is easier, New Zealand, 4s 4d to 4s 9d; Adelaide, 5s 4d to 5s sd; New Zealand flour, £lO 10s to £11; roller make, £ll 5s to £lllss. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, May 9. Two hundred bales of New Zealand hemp have been sold at £35 to £36105. Values at present are inflated owing to the dearness of manilla. Frozen mutton is firm and unchanged. Beef slightly lower. May 10. New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock has declined I per cent, and is quoted at 105 ~ Australian wheat, ex warehouse, averages 395. New Zealand long berried, in store, 38s 3d. The market is weaker. German beet sugar, 21a, The market is weak, Java, 235. Tallow, the market is quiet. Best mutton, 25s Gd to 26s ; beef, ditto. The Antwerp wool sales will extend from the 20th to the 25th. 15,000 bales will be offered, including 1000 from Australia.
