Berlin, May 11. Over 100,000 colliers are out on strike iu Westphalia. Another collision has occurred between the military and the strikers, in which several of the latter were killed and a number injuted. The minors aro bitterly incensed against the military. Charley Horne was very badly scalded about the arms and head by an accident while removing a boiler of hot water from a fireplace. Gisborne, May 10. A Maori girl, Maria Munn, eight years of age, was burned to death at Waiapu on Monday. Carelessness was shown on the part of the parents, but no inquiry was held. Blenheim, May 10. A sudden death occurred at Tua Marina last night. Peter Morris, a highly educated remittance man, died of asthma. His brother is in India, a Lieut*Colonel of the 63th Rifles. A mac immod Michael Dowling died today while undergoing an opsratioc for cancer in the Hospital. Ho bad taken chloroform against the advice of the doctors. Dr Cheghorn operated and Dr Nairn adminisUred, and before the operation was over the patient suddenly ceased to breathe. Blenheim, May 11. An inquest was held to-day on tho body of Micbael Dowling, who died at the Hospital yesterday while under chloroform. The post mot Urn examination showed that deceased's heart was rather enkrged, and very pale. No blame was attached to the medical man who administered the chloroform. The verdict of the jury was ‘‘that deceased died from the effects of chloroform.” Nelson, May 10, At the inquest to-day on the body found on the boulder bank at Wakapuaka, a verdict of “ found dead ” was returned. The medical evidence showed that death occurred over two months ago. There is no clue to lead to identification, Greymouth, May 11. At the R.M. Court to-day, Malacbi Taylor, brewer, charged with illicit distillation, was fined £25 or three months’ imprisonment for having more . than tho lawful quantity of spirits in the brewery, and £IOO or three months’ imprisonment, for having spirits in bis possession on which 'he duty bad not been paid. He was taken to gaol. It was reported In Leeston on Saturday morning (says the Press) that a fisherman on Lake Ellesmere, named Louis Yernot, met with a fatal accident on Thimday evening through a trap ha was driving capsizing. The man is reported to have been picked up dead on Saturday morning, while the horse and trap were found a few yards further along the Lake road.
