Dr. Cronin, a friend of Major Lv Caron, the British .Government spy, who Rave evidence before tiie Parnell Commission, is missing, and ho is supposed to have been murdered. An empty packing c»so was found near, upon which were marks of blond andtufts of hair, believed to belong to Cronin. It is suspected he has fallen a victim to Irish vengeance in consequence of LeCaron betraying the secrets of the party. Melbourne, May 9. A man named Brook made a desperate attempt to murder Mrs Armstrong, at Carleton, but without succsaa. He then committed suicide. The sentence of death on Jones for criminal assault has been commuted to imprisonment for twenty yo^rs, Gisborne, May 8. A lad named Cooper, who took some horses to the river to water, was found last night insensible from concussion of the brain. Ho has remained insensible all day. Wanganui, May 9. A sad accident, resulting fatally, happened to a little daughter, II years of age, of a respected settler at JFordell named Henry N, Harrison, h appears that the girl was riding home from school on a pony behind her brother. Some children threw stones, and one struck the pony which reared aud threw deceased, who fell on her head and was killed instantaneously. Nelson, May 9. The body of a man, unknown, was discovered on the boulder bank this morning abreast of Wukapaaka. It ia that of an elderly man with grsy hair, and fully dressed in dark coat and vest, with moleskin trousers. The body has not yet been identified. At Tiraaru a warrant has boon issued for the arrest of Peter Birroll, on a charge of forgery, instituted by the Government Auditor. The amount o£ the forgery ia stated to exceed £3OO. A man named Walter Thompson was charged, at the R.M. Court, Tirnaru, on Wednesday, with committing aa unnatural offence, and was remanded until Monday.
