What’n did yer think it came from?—a sodyn fountin’ ? ” A country storekeeper carefully examined the samples of cloth while the traveller patiently waited. _ A customer came, the storekeeper waited on him, then went back to examine the samples—to pull out and untwist the threads. Another customer, and more examination ; still another customer, and as the storekeeper began with, “ Are these samples in style? ” “ They were,” replied the discouraged traveller, “ when you began to look at them; but that was so long ago that I can’t answer now.” “ Weel, John, how are you to-day ?” said a minister to one of his parishioners on meeting him on the road. “ Gey weel. sir; gey weel,” replied John, cautiously, “ gin it wasna for the rheumatism in my richt leg.” “Ah, well John, be thankful, for their is no mistake you are getting old, like the rest of us, and old age, you know, doesn’t come alone.” “ Auld age, sir,” returned John; “ I woner to hear ye.
