TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting of the above board took place on Tuesday. Present—Messrs JVT. M. Hayhurst, Bissett, and Fraser. Mr Hayhurst .- was voted to the chair. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous monthly meeting were read and confirmed. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £155 1 3s lOd were passed for payment. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received as follows: From the returning officer, declaring the following gentlemen duly elected to the Road Board Messrs C. Bissett, J. Fraser, and J. T. M. Hayhurst. A telegram was read from the Property-Tax Department, requesting that the statement of values be forwarded to the Clerk of the Court, Temuka, for the use of the Board of Reviewers.—Attended to. From the Clerk to the Counter" Council, stating that the board’s share of contribution to charitable aid would be £2BB 2s, and asking that the half of that, £144 Is 6d, might be remitted to the credit of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Department at the Bank of N.Z. From Mr Brook, of Ashburton, covering a circular re poisoned wheat. —Received. From the Crown Lands Commissioner, stating that he could not advise the board as to their power to let Canal reserve. From the General Survey Department, asking that plans of the Canterbury runs might be exhibited in somei convenient place. From Mr Andrew Grant, intimating his willingness to pay half cost of drains fronting on his property at Springfield, and asking the overseer, to inspect the same with him,—Tenders had been called for the work. From the Clerk to the County Council, stating that the ranger of the „ Rangitata-Orari water-race had been instructed to proceed to fords mentioned in the overseer’s letter. From Mr 0. Bowker, stating that he bad sold R.S. 17635 to Mr Austin, md asking that the latter’s name might be placed on the roll in respect of same.—To be done if Mr Austin consents. ; From the Clerk to the County Council, covering forms showing statements of receipts, expenditure, etc., to be filled in and forwarded at an early date.—The clerk to attend to the matter.
INTEKTIEWS. Mr James Guild applied to have a roadside drain at Trevenna cleaned. The applicant stated that he had always done the work previously. There were about GO chains of it. It was agreed to invite tenders for the work, to be considered in a fortnight by the chairman. Mr C. Eraser applied for a few pipes or planks for a crossing to his section at Epworth.—The overseer was instructed to supply the necessary pipes. Mr Malarkey asked to have 1 4s chains of drain, from the Boiling Down comer to the creek, cleaned out. — The overseer reported on the matter, and it wan decided to have the work done. Mr Lowe applied for some planks to repair a drain bridge.—The overseer was requestej to make the bridge passable. SENDEES.
Tenders were received as follows • Contract No. I—Formation, Rangitata: M. Sheehm, £8 10s (accepted). Contract No 2—Cleaning drain, White’s road.—No tenders. Contract No, 3—Cleaning drains, Upper Swamp md Paterson’s road: M. Flaherty, la 2d per chain; G. Latimer, Is Id; J. Davis, Is (accepted). Contract No. 4-Supply of bridge timber: James 31yth, 18s 6d per 100 ft all round; John Jacksoc, Jss per 100 ft for 18ft and 16ft leagths, 16s per 100 ft for 24ft lengths (accepted). OTEESEEES EEPOET. The overseer male a verbal report on bridges oyer road drains, and asked for instructions x same.—lt was resolved to defer onsideration of the matter until next loard day. The board then tdjourned.
