DASTARDLY OUTRAGE.

Westport, April 26, A dastardly affair occurred at Cape Fool wind between twelve and one o’clock last night. A Urge stone building, occupied by Ballantyne Bros, (who are connected with the contractors), was blown up with dynamite. The hole in the ground where the explosive struck down can be seen under the front part of the building. Fully half the building was reduced to a perfect wreck. The timber was shattered, and sheets of iron thrown seme distance away, with holes in. them where tins of goods had been blown through, The two Ballantynes were sleeping at the rear of the premises. One of their bunks was moved, but they escaped uninjured. A boy was sleeping on the floor of the store next to the partition of the room in which the Ballantynes were. He was unhurt. A timekeeper named Brown usually slept in the front part of the store, but fortunately he had not gone to bed. Had he done so, certainly he would have been killed. The police ore making inquiries. There is no clue to the author of the outrage, Great indignation exists amongst the unionists and others, especially as the relations between the contractors and men are of the most pacific and friendly character. Wellington, April 28. Two constables, Kobinson and Swain, leave to-morrow for Cape Foulwind, to assist in preserving order. n wwwwi .U. JHBWIU V^^3S
