Long Sbbtioe Medals.—lt is perhaps not generally known that the Queen presents a medal to the ordinary staff of her household for long and faithful services. It is silver, designed by Wyon, about the size of a florin, with a silver clasp showing the orown and Royal cypher, suspended from a ribbon of the Victoria plaid pattern. On one side is the profile of the Queen, on the other an inscription getting foith to whom and for what services it has been awarded. Sir Julius Yo«el.—Sir Julius (says a Horae correspondent of an exchange) doss frot seem to be taking much interest in bis novel. Sir Julius does not consider that he knows enough about the Maoris to introduce thorn into a novel.
