Melbourne, April 24. A boiler at the works of Pitt and Co., safe makers, tlotham, exploded to-day gnd wrecked the buildings. A sod of one of the proprietors was blown to atoms, and a workman named Ryan seriouply injured. April 25. An extraordinary escape from drowning is reported. As the steamer Ouzco 'was coming up Hobson's Bay, n passenger, Mrs Walker, fell overboard. »nd although a thorough search was at once institu'ed no trace of her could be found. Half-an-hour later, as (he steamer Parramatta was proceeding down the bay Mrs Walker was observed floating about in the water, and a boat being lowered she was taken on board the gteamer, and found to be but little the worse for the mishap.
Sailed, yesterday—Rotonnhana,. for the Bluff. Sydney, April 21. Contingent with the Colonial Treasurer moving the introduction of a Hill in the Legislative Assembly to provide for the sale of suburban lands to extinguish the existing deficit, Mr Henry Copeland, member for New England, who was returned on the protection ticket, has given notice ot motiou- " That in order to mnet the deficit an ad valorem duty of 10 per cent, be imposed on fancy articles, carriages, jewellery drapery (except cotton and woollen's), glassware, furniture, and other articles; such duties to cease when the deficit is extinguished." Iho motion is considered, practically, a vote of censure on the Government.

Tho whole of tho Australian colonies have agreed to invite General Edwards, of the Imperial Army, to make a periodical inspection of the colonial forces and defences.
