Waiuawa, April 25

A man named Ni cholas Loye, an old settler at Asidey Clinton, shot himself this morning, and baa since died. A coroner’s inquest will be held.

■Wellington, April 25,

The body of a man named Patrick Hilliard, believed to be 50 or 60 years of age, was found floating in the harbour. Deceased was a labourer, formerly resident at Foxton, but lately returned from Mahakipawa goldfields. He was last seen yesterday afternoon. It is not known how he got into the water.

Dunedin, April 25

James McCarnergney, aged 60 years, committed suicide at South Dunedin by shooting himself in the mouth with a revolver. He had been suffering for three years, and latterly was in terrible pain, from sciatica. He leaves a wife and five children, Hokitika, April 25.

A man named Dixon, who had an accident by a gunshot wound at Kawhaka, had his leg amputated, but died under the operation. At the inquest over the man Allan, who was drowned in the Otira, it transpired that he was going from Hokitika to Christchurch, lie told people whom be met that be was pushed for time. He tried the crossing in a flood and was swept down.
