The Pbbmibe. —The Premier left Wellington for the West Ceaßt, South Island, in the Hinemoa on Tuesday morning. He returns on the 30th inst. or Ist May to receive the Governor. Advance in Stt»abs.—The Colonial Sugar Company, of Auckland, have notified an advance of 10s per ton on all grades of sugar, and on treacle and syrup in bulk, and 6d per case on treacle and syrup in cases. Export op Fish.—The first shipment of fish consigned to tho Melbourno Fish and Produco Importing Company leaves in the Mararou. It consists of thirteen . lons, oolleoted at Aucklaud, Napier, and Wellington.

School Tkeat, Etc., at Pleasant Vali/et.—The anneal school treat in connection with the Pleasant Yalley school takes place to-day. A ball will be held in the evening.

Bents in Squthland.—About 3000 acres of Mr G. M. Bell's Wantwood Estate, Southland, was offered on Saturday on orupping terms for the year. A portion known as the " Bashpool" brought from 19a to 27s per acre, and the balance, mostly in turnips, 11b to 14s per acre. Babbits and Fbbbets. Mr David Murray informs the Tapanui Courier that his rabbiter, recently trapping at Criohton Park, caught 100 ferrets and 750 rabbits with the same traps. The ferrets were therefore ia proportion to the rabbits of ena to seven and a half. Mr Murray considers that the ferrets kill a large number of rats and young rabbits.

The crew were saved and taken to Noumea. Considerable damage was done on land by the hurricane, houses and tress being swept away. Q-UN Accident. —A young man named Fritz Cullman net with a serious accident near Timaru on Monday last. He was out shooting, and the gun he was using burst, mutilating his left hand in a terrible manner. Tho palm of the hand, the thumb, and fore aad third fingers were badly smashed, and in the evening the thumb and forefinger were amputated. It is hoped that the third finger may be saved. AesiouLTUßAii Retubns.—The agricaltural returns of Southland, Wallace, and Stewart Island, ebow a total of 18,446 aores more in grass and crop than last year. Of last year's grain on hand there are 11,410 bushels wheat, and 12,483 bushels oats, ths former being considerably more and the latter much less than last year. The average yield of wheat, oats, btrley and potatoes is less than last year. The Goyebnob.—The Premier has been in communication with Lord Onslow regarding his journey to Wellington, and the present arrangement is that the Governor and Lady Onslow go overland via the Lakes and Napior, reaohing Wellington on May 2. Lord Onslow is very anxious to visit tbe Lake District, and he is reported to have a great idea of travelling about tho less known parts of the oolony on horseback. Important Land Sale. To-morrow Messrs Miles, Archer, and Co; will submitt to the hammer, on account of Mr W. U. Slack, tbe magnificent Woodside estate, of 2300 aores, which has been sub-divided into areas to suit all classes of purchasers. The land is situated about 8 to 10 miles from Orari and Winchester railway stations, and iB noted for its fertility. The terms are easy. The sale will take place at the Wolseley Hotel, Winchester, and commence at halfpast one o'clock sharp.

BAZiAK AND GlFl AUCTION.—-The bazaar and gift auction in connection with St. Saviour's Church was continued on Tuesday. The attendance was very good in the evening, but meagre in the afternoon. All the more useful articles upon the stalls were readily disposed of, and the valuable ornamental ones were easily disposed of by art union. Among the latter we omitted to mention & painting of Lake Tekapo by Miss Paterson, which was capitally executed. A fancy table, hand painted, also her work, was muoh admired. In the evening the produce, consisting of grain, fruit trees, fowls, etc., was disposed of by auction by Mr K. F. Gray, who kindly gave his seryices for the occasion. Mrs Foster again added to the enjoyment of the evening by her excellent playing, and Messrs Rayner and Laugridge occasionally accompanied her in trios. The thanks of the ohurohwardens are due to all who kindly assisted, and also to donors of produoe, etc. We understand that the bazaar realised in all over £BO, a very satisfactory sum, considering that the effort is by no means a special one.

SPOETlua.—The Australian Jockey Club's Autumn meeting commenced at Sydney on Monday, the weather being glorious, and the attendance large. Results—Hurdle Raoe: Ayrshire 1, Parade 2. AiifcumH Stakes, one and a-half miles: Aberoom 1, Carbine 2. Lochiel was also among the starters. Carbine started the favorite, and the finish was one of the most desperate between tka first and second horses ever seen on an Australian raceoouree, The race was won amid the greatest excitement by about half a neck. Time, 2rain 42sec. A.J.C. Sires' Produce Stakes ; Rudolph 1, Spice 2. Mutual Selling Plate : Dividend 1, Fernandez 2. St. Leger : Melos 1, Volley 2. Doncaster Handicap ; Russley 1, Plutarch 2. This was a great race, and the New Zealander won by a head.—The Autumn meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club took place on Monday and Tuesdiy, and was very succesiful. On Monday the Christchurch Hurdle Race was won by Sockburn, the Tenaploton Stakes by Sir Julius, the Great Autumn Handicap by Savenswing, the Champagne Stakes by Merrie England, the Epsom Welter by Rainbow, the Russley Stokes by Musk Deer, and the Post Stakes by Kale Hayes. On Tuesday the Hurdle Race was won by Satan, with Torrent second, the Nwrsory Handicap by Cynisca, tho Challenge Stakes by Soots Grey, i,ho Selling Raoo by Rtiwi, the Easter Handicap by Vandal, and I the Coneolution by Escapade.
