Kate Brewer, who was badly burnt owing to her clothes catching fire a fortnight ago, died at the Wellington Hospital on Monday morning. The master's house at the Blenheim public Bchool was destroyed by fire early on Tuesday morning. Incendiarism is suspected as two hours before the place was destroyed it was discovered to be on fire but the flames were then extinguished. Richard Jackman, who was charged with committing a criminal assiult on Wb daughter, aged 15£ years, at Loeston on April 3, was on Saturday discharged by a Christchurch magistrate, who did not consider the evidence conclusive enough to send to a jury. The Auckland Volunteers attending the encampment were kept waiting at the Hamilton station for three hours during Monday night, exposed to occasional rain squalls. The reason assigned waß that the trains were engaged at the races. Much indignation is said to exist in conBequenco.
