AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.

GERALDINE. Messrs J. Mandell and Co. report sales for the week endiDg Saturday, 20th April, 1889, a 3 follows: On Tuesday we held a clearing sale of live stock and farming implements, on account of William Upton Slack, Esq., Woodside, which was largely attended from all parts of the district, 350 being in attendance when the sheep and cattle were sold, and during the afternoon the number was considerably increased. Prom the spirited nature of the bidding, we have no hesitation in saying that everyone present came with the intention of securing a portion of the really good stock from the Woodside estate, especially famous for its shorthorn cattle, the herd being almost perfection. Prices realised during the sale were extremely satisfactory to the vendor, as the following quotations will show:—

Sheep—Half-bred ewes, 7s 6d to 5s 6d; crossbred lambs, 6s lid, 6s 5d to 5s 6d; English Leicester rams, 2£ guineas to 2£ guineas. Cattle—Dairy cows, £5, M 17s 6d, £4 5s to £3 17s 6d; dry cows, £3 12s 6d, £8 ss, to £2 12s 6d; two-year-old heifers, £3 5s to £2 7s 6d ; yearling steers and heifers, £3 10s to £1 15s; calves, 17s to 15s. \ Horses—Draught, 9 head sold at an an average of £22 ss; hunters, light harness horses and hackneys, £3O, £l4, £lO 10s, £6 ss. Pigs—Forward stores, £1 12s to 16a 6d.

Implements and sundries sold at satisfactory prices.

On Wednesday at the Geraldine Yards the first of the fortnightly sales was held. The number of stock yarded was not so large as at the monthly sales, but the attendance of the public was good, and with only a few exceptions every lot submitted was sold at the following quotations : Sheep—Crossbred two-tooths, lis; three-quarter-bred lambs, 6s 9d; crossbred ewes (full mouth), 4s lOd ; E.L. rams, 1\ guineas. Cattle—Two-year-old steers and heifers, £3 Ss to £2 10s ; cows in profit, £8 10s; yearling steers and heifers, £1 10s; calves, Bs. Pigs—Stores, 9s to ss.
