CHRISTOHUROH STOCK MARKETS,
At the Addington live stock market on Wednesday there was a large attendance of buyers.
Fat Cattle—There was a very moderate entry of beef. Prices remained firm at last week's quotations. Prime ox beef realised up to 17s 6d per 1001 b. Inferior quality was in better demand than formerly. Fat calves sold up to from 16s to 25s per head. Fat Sheep—As compared with the last few weeks the entry of fat sheep was much, less, and the quality very decidedly inferior. Such pens of prime mutton as were sold at the earlier portion of the sale fetched fully 2d per lb,but as there was a considerable amount of inferior quality remaining, quotations were very varied.—The JN T .Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. sold for the Eiverslea Estate (per Mr A. M. Clark), 100 crossbred wethers at 15s, 40 do at 14s Id, and 16 do at 14s, 25 crossbred ewes at 13s 5d,55.d0 at 12s 9d.—Messrs Miles and Co- sjld for Mr M. Qu'tnn, 16 crossbred wethers at 20s (this was the highest price obtained during the sale). Store Sheep—A large entry. The quality was very varied, as the prices will show, ranging, as they did, from 2s to lis 3d. Lambs—Owing to a small entry fat lambs sold very well, and prime sorts fetched between 8s and 9s a head.
Pigs-—There was a very good entry. The prices for good porkers ranged from 35s to 465, and for inferior ones from 20s to 30s. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MAKKETB. The following is the report for the week ending "Wednesday:— Wheat This market has been steadily drooping, and to effect sales a reduction on last week's quotations has to be submitted to. Buyers are apparently disinclined to enter into transactions of any magnitude at present quotations, which are as follow: —Prime red straw and white velvet, 4s to 4s Id; tuscan, 2d to 3d more; medium to good, 3s Od to 3s 9d; Inferior to medium, 2a 9d to 3s 3d (ex store).
. Oats—Deliveries are now assuming much larger volume. A fair demand exists, but with so many offering, the market is more in favor of buyers, and prices scarcely so firm. Prime milling, 2s 7d to 2s lid; best short feed, 2s Gd to 2a 7d ; medium to good, 2s 5d to 2a (id (ex store).
Barley With the exception, of tempting lines at suitable prices, there is very little business done in malting. Milling in small lots is saleable. We quote prime malting, 3s 9d to 3a lOd; medium, 3s 3d to 3s Gd (ex store). Grass Seeds —Eyegrass : Farmers, 2s 9d to 3s 3d; machine dressed, 3s 6d to 4s; Poverty Bay, 4s 6d to ss. Cocksfoot, 2fd to 3|d. Italian ryegrass, 4s to 4s 6d. Potatoes The demand is fairly active, but supplies are ample at £4 per ton. Dairy Produce—-The market remains same as last week. We quote 6d to for prime factory cheese; butter, lOd buyers as yet unwilling to operate at these prices. Pi gß _Well fed up to 1801 b 3|d to 4|d. Hams in cloth, 9d; rolls and flitches, 6^d. Chaff—Well cut heavy oaten sheaf, £3 15s to £4.
Turnips, 15s to 20s per ton; carrots, 40s per ton. Straw—oat6n and wheafcen, 35s to 40s. Hay, oaten, clover, and ryegrass, 60s to 655. Eggs, scarce and going up. Honey, drained, 3|d to 4d; extracted, 4£d.
Sheepskins —On Monday country dry crossbreds.low to medium, realised Is 4d to 3s 7d; do do merino, Is 3d to 3s 4d; full-woolled crossbreds, 3s 9d to 5s lOd; do do merino, '3s 5d to 5s Gd; dry pelts, 2d to Is 2d; best green crossbred shearlings, 2s lOd to 2s 6d; medium to inferior, 2s 4d to Is lOd; green merinos, Is 9d to 2s 6d; lambskins, 3s 2d to 2s 3d. Hides—All to hand this week were placed at up to 3|d for best; medium to good, 2|d to 3£d; light, 2£d to 2f d; inferior and bulls', l£d to 2d per lb. Tallow—For prime rendered mutton, 21s to 225; medium to good, 17s 6d to 19s; inferior and mixed, 14s 6d to 16s 6d; rough fat—best mutton, 13s Gd to 15s; medium to good, 10s to 13s per cwt.
DUNEDIN STOCK MARKET.
At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted :
Eat Cattle—lßs yarded, the greater part of prime quality. A slight improvement noticeable in prices, batchers taking all offered at for bullocks, £4 7s 6d to £8 7s 6d; cows, £3 10s to £7!—John Griiidley (on behalf of the Farmers' Agency Co., Limited) sold for Mr James Guild (Trevenna), 6 prime bullocks at £8 5s to £7 10s.—Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold for the same vendor, 6 prime bullocks at from £7 7s 6d to £8 2s 6d.
Fat Sheep —« 2618 were penned. Sales opened briskly with an advance of Is to Is 6a a head; this was well maintained throughout. Crossbred wethers sold at 8s 6d tol3s6d; do ewes, 8s to 14s; merino wethers, 6s to 9s; da ewes, 5s to 6s 6d.—John Grindley (on behalf of the Farmers' Agency Co., Limited) sold for Mr William Grant (Blloughton Grange), 59 crossbred ewes at lis 9d to lib.— Wright, Stephenson, and Co sold for the same vendor, 61 crossbred ewes at from 8s 9d to 10s 9d. !
Fat Lambs Only 803 penned. These proved sufficient for butchers' wants, and sold at a shade over last week's prices—best pens making 6s to 8s 9d; others, 5s to 5s 9d.
Pigs Bacon pigs (extra haavy weights) at from 58s to 635; bacon pigs (ordinary weights) at from 44s to 565; porkers at from 23s 6d to 365; stores, lis to 23s 6d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, April 17. Best New Zealand wheat, 4s 3d to--4s 9d to ss; do chick wheat, 3s 6d to 3s 9d. There will not be much doing till after the. holidays. Oats—Best; feed, 3s 2d to 3s sd; seed, 3a 3d to 3s 6d, down to 2s 9d for lower grades. Maize, 3s 2d. Capo barley, 3s 4d; English, 4s 6d. Bran, Is. Pollard, Is 3d. New Zealand potatoes, £4 to £4 gs'; Circular Heads, '£4 10s. Onions, New Zealand, £l4. Turnips, £3. Butter—lmported, 8d to Is ■ local, Is 3d to Is 6d. : Cheese, 7d to B|d. Bacon, local, 8d; imported, 9|d. Melboubne.' April 177 Speculators in wheat are trying to obtain contracts for further parcels. A limited miller's business only is doing, and auctions are lifeless. Prices are steady, and have undergone no change. Flour—Stone-made, £l2 ss; roller brands, £l3. Oats—New Zealand, heavy, 4s Id ; stout, 3s lOd to 3s lOfd. Barley—Malting, 5s lOd; Cape, 3s 4d. Peas, 4s 3d. Maize, 4s 6d to 4s 6id. Bran, prime, Is 4d, in good demand. Adelaide, April 17. "Wheat—Shipping parcels, 4s at Port Adelaide; farmers' lots, 4s 9d to 4s lOd ; at outports, 4s 7d to 4s Bdl Flour—Roller brands, £lllos to £l2 ss; stone-made, £ll. Bran, Is 3d. pollard, Is 4d. New Zealand oats, 4s. Barley, malting 4s 3d, dull. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, April 17, Biddings at the wool sales continue 1 1 brisk, and prices remain firm. I The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the "United Kingdom is 1,944,000 quarters; for the Continent 360,000 quarters. The American visible supply is 27,750,000 bushels. The English wheat market liae undergone a general decline of Cd; the. Continental market is dull, and the American market h unchanged. Sugar—German beefc, 18s 6d; Java ditto, 225, and is still advancing. *
