WAITOHI FLAT SCHOOL.
The presentation of Jubilee Testaments to tbe children attending the Waitohi Elat School took place on Tuesday last. The Bevsh T. A. Hamilton (of Temuka) and J. Holland (of Christchurch) were present to make the distribution; and the local committee were represented by Messrs J. Eraser (chairman) and D. Seaton. At 3 o’clock the children, to the number of fifty-one, were assembled in the large room, and the proceedings were commenced by the Rev. Mr Hamilton engaging in prayer, the children repeating the Lord s Prayer after him. _ , ~ , The rev. gentlemen then delivered very earnest and instructive addresses to the children, dwelling on the blessings that would inevitably flow frdm a careful study of the book which wa* about to be presented to them. They urged upon thern the necessity o f being obedient to their parents and kindly and affectionate one to another, and to strive to do their best in whatever they undertook, for if they did so they would gain the esteem of all, and, above all, they would hare the approbation of Hod. The children were then marched past the Bev. Mr Hamilton, who presented each child with a copy of the Hew Testament, which contained on the fly-leaf the autograph of Her Majesty the Queen, and the verse «On earth peace, and goodwill towards men.” Mr Eraser then addressed the children, urging them to take advantage of the advice which had been given them, and to cherish the present which they had received, for it was undoubtedly the best treasure they could possibly possess. He then, on behalf of committee, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the rev; gentlemen who, at considerable inconvenience to themselves, had kindly come to make the presentation. The Bev. Mr Hamilton again engaged in prayer, and the proceedings terminated.
